Addendum — Saturday Night Astrology, New York, April 29
What you may be feeling as extra weirdness is several cross-currents moving in different directions at the same time.
Retrograde Mercury in Taurus is one source of tension. There is often an apprehensive feeling when Mercury as retrograde, with the sense of not knowing what is next. The big magnet itself is about to align with the Sun and Earth at 7:27 pm EST on Monday. Something is approaching: another planet is going by, passing between the Sun and the Earth.
Pluto stations retrograde less than half a degree into Aquarius the same day. It retreats back into Capricorn on June 11, completing its first foray into the new era. During one of its last short visits to Capricorn, there will be completion work to do.
Jupiter is presently vibrating along with Neptune in a rarely-used 30 degree aspect (semi-sextile) that blends the energy of two adjoining signs, Pisces and Aries (mutable water, and cardinal fire — you cannot get more different than that).
In a little over two weeks, Jupiter will take up residence in Taurus for more than one year. That has the feeling of something approaching.
The Moon as of this writing is in Virgo, with less than a week before it reaches opposition to the Sun, for an eclipse across the Taurus-Scorpio axis, right at the midpoint. This brings in the Aries Point (the first degree of Aries) via two not-so-subtle aspects — Sun at 45 degrees, and Moon at 135 degrees. These are both “trigger aspects,” with the sense that something is approaching.
There is some stability described in how Mars, and slow-movers Chiron, Uranus and centaur Nessus, are all in an aspect pattern at 17-18 degrees of their respective signs.
If you’re feeling a little restless, that’s understandable. We are all processing a lot, and constantly being driven out of body by the digital environment. There will be a tendency to retreat into something familiar, into nostalgia or a seeming comfort zone. That may or may not be helpful, or necessary. We are most surely on the frontier right now. Feel something physical: a cat, a dog, another person, a tree, a hot bath.
Friday night’s Planet Waves FM is a place to hang out. There is also a lively discussion in the comments on its announcement page.
About This Month’s Horoscope and Article
Dear Friend and Reader:
Today I have your May monthly horoscope, available to our esteemed subscribers who make it possible for me to sit here and write this stuff for you. Thank you. The links are located below the paywall.
If you are paying subscriber through the Planet Waves website, these same materials are available in your My Account feed.
Included below is the same column that for many years ran in Chronogram, in eOmega News, Mystic Gardens on AOL, on Jonathan Cainer’s website, and in newspapers and magazines througout the world. Many of you found me through the New York Daily News. This is the expanded version of that column.
We need a spiritual approach now
I know many of my Substack subscribers are hardcore science and politics lovers. Most of you found me thanks to my coverage of various fraud cases. I would encourage you to take a step into the numinous world of good astrology.
One consequence of a world dominated by science and technology is the disenchantment of our lives. Astrology calls us back into the direction of poetry, beauty and meaning. It is the study of the inner life.
In our time, we need a spiritual approach, and that is what I offer. Astrology is not “science,” and neither are you. Rather, it relates to the human condition — that is, your personal situation — through story, cycles, archetypes and ideas.
Like Special Agent Dale Cooper of Twin Peaks, I combine analysis and a spiritual approach in all of my investigations. The combination of reason and intuition can produce excellent results. Read our testimonials by tapping the banner.
Emphasis on Jupiter in Taurus, and Pluto in Aquarius
May is a big month, with Jupiter entering Taurus for a year, a lunar eclipse in Scorpio, Mercury changing directions and Pluto in Aquarius now making itself known and felt.
The reason to follow the work of a competent astrologer, who has proven himself to be consistent, reliable and helpful, is because having a true sense of the current astrology will save you effort, time and money. Good astrology points to opportunities, and offers ideas that get results.
Astrology has the potential to address the ever-increasing chaos of our world in a way that no other mental art form can. Astrology is the original “book of change.”

“Eric has been deeply dedicated to astrology for decades, and his prolific work is based on the application of astrology to the living field of human experience — bringing awareness to the journey of deepening and awakening, both individual and collective. He engages with the full spectrum of astrological considerations, from the philosophical to the experiential, and I’ve been grateful for the many illuminating (and fun!) exchanges we’ve had down the years.”
