Tonight on Planet Waves FM: Tales from the Secret History of Dioxin, and a Message to East Palestine
Dioxin historian Carol van Strum joins me as I take the history of dioxin back to the first known incident, at a BASF plant in WV in 1949. And: Was the movie "White Noise" predictive programming?
Good morning from New York. This mailing is from Planet Waves FM - Chiron Return, the nonprofit investigative team. Commercial news reporting is paid for largely by pharmaceutical companies. To do the meticulous, professionally-produced work we do, we depend on the loving and voluntary support of our readers and listeners. Please do what you can. Dioxin has a long history — and the federal government is adept at concealing the truth, losing samples, lying in court, and conspiring with the companies it’s supposed to regulate. How will the people of East Palestine navigate this medical, legal and scientific maze?
Update, Sat. Feb. 18 — We’ve been trying to determine who is responsible for the decision to dump and burn the vinyl chloride. First, EPA’s National Response Center was notified of the derailment and spill about two hours after it happened. So they are in a “knew or should have known” position regarding what was happening immediately.
Up until Monday. Feb. 6, there appears to have been an evacuation recommendation, but on that day the governors of Ohio and Pennsylvania upgraded it to an evacuation order, to accommodate the dump and burn decision.
The question is, at what point did the known degradation byproducts enter the scenario? Was dioxin in the discussion? This is what we are now working to establish; it may take a while, as we will need to use the FOIA. — efc
Dear Friend and Listener:
Tonight on Planet Waves FM, I will look at events in East Palestine, share what I know about getting governments to do honest testing and why they do not, and consider the potential fate of East Palestine.
I will be joined by Carol van Strum and take you through some of the history of dioxin, which begins one morning in BASF’s Building 41 on March 8, 1949 in Nitro, West Virginia. It continues through Vietnam, Times Beach, Love Canal and a 1979 train wreck in Missouri — and goes right through the Feb. 3 derailment in Ohio.
I’ll have a comment about the movie White Noise, and a full article about “predictive programming” on Saturday.
One interview is already posted. The full program usually goes up ahead of its scheduled Fridays at 10 pm time. Thank you for tuning in, spreading the word, and sharing a few dollars to help with our basic reporting and production costs.
