In Massachusetts there is a 20% tax on all recreational cannabis products. Medical marijuana requires a $150-200 dollar license/doctor approval in order to avoid the tax, and the license must be renewed annually. Along with gambling ( which also was illegal in the past ) it is a major source of government income, and capitalist growth( big pharma is capturing the production).
